Predicted Round One Sides | SuperCoach 2019

One week to go, so here are the predicted round one sides, according to SCHQ!

Be sure to let us know if you disagree on social media or in the comments section below.

FB: Tom Doedee, Daniel Talia, Brodie Smith
HB: Rory Laird, Kyle Hartigan, Wayne Milera

R: Sam Jacobs, Matt Crouch, Brad Crouch
M: Rory Atkins, Rory Sloane, Paul Seedsman

HF: David Mackay, Taylor Walker, Tom Lynch
FF: Eddie Betts, Josh Jenkins, Hugh Greenwood

I/C: Bryce Gibbs, Jake Kelly, Richard Douglas, Riley Knight

E: Cameron Ellis-Yolmen, Alex Keath, Chayce Jones, Lachlan Murphy
Inj: Luke Brown

Brown is really the only first-choice Crow who is unavailable for round one. As a result, I’ve got the exciting draftee Jones missing, as well as recruits McAdam and McHenry.

Rookies: n/a

FB: Alex Witherden, Harris Andrews, Luke Hodge
HB: Daniel Rich, Josh Walker, Darcy Gardiner

R: Stef Martin, Lachie Neale, Jarryd Lyons
M: Mitch Robinson, Jarrod Berry, Hugh McCluggage

HF: Cameron Rayner, Eric Hipwood, Dayne Zorko
FF: Lincoln McCarthy, Daniel McStay, Charlie Cameron

I/C: Rhys Mathieson, Allen Christensen, Lewis Taylor, Nick Robertson

E: Ryan Bastinac, Zac Bailey, Ryan Lester, Oscar McInerney
Inj: Marcus Adams

Almost a full squad for the Lions to choose from is a great position to be in for the emerging club. Quite a few good SuperCoach options too, but no rookies.

Rookies: n/a

FB: Nic Newman, Liam Jones, Lachie Plowman
HB: Kade Simpson, Jacob Weitering, Dale Thomas

R: Andrew Phillips, Marc Murphy, Patrick Cripps
M: Ed Curnow, Paddy Dow, Zach Fisher

HF: David Cuningham, Charlie Curnow, Sam Petrevski-Seton
FF: Mitch McGovern, Harry McKay, Michael Gibbons

I/C: Sam Walsh, Will Setterfield, Matthew Kennedy, Jack Silvagni

E: Cameron Polson, Liam Stocker, Jarrod Garlett, Patrick Kerr
Inj: Matthew Kreuzer, Sam Docherty, Caleb Marchbank, Tom Williamson, Darcy Lang, Alex Fasolo

The Blues showed some really encouraging signs in the pre-season and are starting to put together some really good names. I’ve really Kreuzer out of round one, while Gibbons and Setterfield will get a few games to cement their spot.

Rookies: Sam Walsh ($207,300 MID), Michael Gibbons ($102,400 MID), Will Setterfield ($144,900 MID/FWD)

FB: Jeremy Howe, Jordan Roughead, Tom Langdon
HB: Jack Crisp, Darcy Moore, Brayden Maynard

R: Brodie Grundy, Scott Pendlebury, Dayne Beams
M: Tom Phillips, Adam Treloar, Steele Sidebottom

HF: Jamie Elliott, Brody Mihocek, Josh Thomas
FF: Jordan De Goey, Mason Cox, Jaidyn Stephenson

I/C: Travis Varcoe, Chris Mayne, James Aish, Levi Greenwood

E: Callum Brown, Tyson Goldsack, Ben Crocker, Ben Reid
Inj: Taylor Adams, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Lynden Dunn, Daniel Wells

The Pies are missing one first-choice player from each line, but such is their depth they can cover the losses quite easily. Howe and De Goey should be right to go and the midfield is just stacked with quality.

Rookies: n/a

FB: Patrick Ambrose, Michael Hurley, Conor McKenna
HB: Jordan Ridley, Aaron Francis, Adam Saad

R: Tom Bellchambers, Dyson Heppell, Zach Merrett
C: David Zaharakis, Dylan Shiel, Andrew McGrath

HF: Devon Smith, Mitch Brown, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
FF: Jake Stringer, Shaun McKernan, Orazio Fantasia

I/C: Darcy Parish, Kyle Langford, David Myers, Matt Guelfi

E: Jayden Laverde, Mark Baguley, Michael Hartley, Zac Clarke
Inj: Matt Dea, Cale Hooker, Marty Gleeson, Joe Daniher

The Bombers will be sweating on the fitness of Fantasia, who should be right to go. Clarke is a chance to get a call-up now thanks to Daniher’s latest injury set back, but given Brown was used in JLT2 I think they’ll go with him.

Rookies: Jordan Ridley ($233,100 DEF)

FB: Luke Ryan, Joel Hamling, Nathan Wilson
HB: Darcy Tucker, Alex Pearce, Reece Conca

Sean Darcy, Nat Fyfe, Andrew Brayshaw
M: Bradley Hill, Bailey Banfield, Ed Langdon

HF: David Mundy, Rory Lobb, Adam Cerra
FF: Hayden Ballantyne, Jesse Hogan, Michael Walters

I/C: Ethan Hughes, Travis Colyer, Stefan Giro, Brett Bewley

E: Taylin Duman, Scott Jones, Ryan Nyhuis, Mitch Crowden
Inj/sus: Stephen Hill, Brandon Matera, Connor Blakely, Aaron Sandilands, Brennan Cox, Matt Taberner, Shane Kersten, Griffen Logue, Harley Bennell

Finding 26 fit players wasn’t easy, because there are just so many injuries to contend with at the Dockers. It means the mature-aged recruit Bewley should get a gig, as will other recruits Lobb, Hogan, Conca and Colyer. Ross Lyon has turned over a whole new team.

Rookies: Brett Bewley ($117,300 MID)

FB: Jordan Clark, Mark Blicavs, Tom Stewart
HB: Jake Kolodjashnij, Harry Taylor, Jack Henry

R: Rhys Stanley, Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood
M: Mitch Duncan, Tim Kelly, Brandan Parfitt

HF: Sam Menegola, Tom Hawkins, Luke Dahlhaus
FF: Gary Rohan, Esava Ratugolea, Gary Ablett

I/C: Lachie Henderson, Cameron Guthrie, Tom Atkins, Charlie Constable

E: Zach Guthrie, Gryan Miers, Quinton Narkle, Mark O’Connor
Inj: Zach Tuohy, Nakia Cockatoo, Zac Smith, Jed Bews, Darcy Fogarty

The Cats have to decide whether they want to go in with such a tall defence against the Pies – Guthrie or O’Connor could get a reprieve at the expense of Henderson. Midfield guns are locked in, as are the two talls in Hawkins and Ratugolea.

Rookies: Tom Atkins ($112,900 MID), Charlie Constable ($123,900 MID), Jordan Clark ($144,300 DEF)

FB: Pearce Hanley, Charlie Ballard, Sam Collins
HB: Lachie Weller, Jack Hombsch, Jarrod Harbrow

R: Jarrod Witts, Brayden Fiorini, Anthony Miles
M: Alex Sexton, David Swallow, Touk Miller

HF: Ben Ainsworth, Jack Lukosius, Jack Martin
FF: Chris Burgess, Peter Wright, Wil Powell

I/C: Jack Bowes, George Horlin-Smith, Jordan Murdoch, Darcy MacPherson

E: Callum Ah Chee, Jesse Joyce, Ben King, Jacob Heron
Inj: Izak Rankine, Sam Day, Sean Lemmens, Rory Thompson, Josh Corbett, Corey Ellis, Harrison Wigg, Aaron Young

The Suns have a raft of injuries to deal with, but it means basically all of their recruits will get a run.

Rookies: Sam Collins ($188,900 DEF), Jack Lukosius ($202,800), Chris Burgess ($123,900 DEF/FWD)

FB: Heath Shaw, Phil Davis, Zac Williams
HB: Lachie Whitfield, Sam Taylor, Adam Kennedy

R: Dawson Simpson, Stephen Coniglio, Josh Kelly
M: Adam Tomlinson, Tim Taranto, Brett Deledio

HF: Brett Daniels, Jeremy Cameron, Aiden Bonar
FF: Daniel Lloyd, Harry Himmelberg, Toby Greene

I/C: Harry Perryman, Jackson Hatley, Jacob Hopper, Lachie Keeffe

E: Jye Caldwell, Isaac Cumming, Matt Buntine, Jeremy Finlayson
Inj/sus: Shane Mumford, Nick Haynes, Callan Ward, Jon Patton, Zac Langdon

Quite a few of the best 22 will miss round one, and coming up against the quick Bombers, I think the Giants will go in fairly small. Finlayson was trialled up forward in the JLT but I don’t think there’s room for him.

Rookies: Jackson Hately ($148,800 MID)

FB: James Frawey, Kaiden Brand, Blake Hardwick
HB: James Sicily, Ben Stratton, Jarman Impey

Ben McEvoy, Jaeger O’Meara, Liam Shiels
M: Isaac Smith, James Worpel, Ricky Henderson

Harry Morrison, Jack Gunston, Shaun Burgoyne
FF: Luke Breust, Jarryd Roughead, Paul Pupolo

Dylan Moore, Jack Scrimshaw, James Cousins, Jon Ceglar

E: Conor Nash, Ryan Schoenmakers, David Mirra, Tim O’Brien
Inj: Tom Mitchell, Tom Scully, Grant Birchall, Chad Wingard

The Hawks have a lot of A-graders out and so we see some opportunities for some fresh faces. They’ll probably go in with two rucks and have the versatile Burgoyne to fill any hole that might arise.

Rookies: Dylan Moore ($123,900 FWD), Jack Scrimshaw ($149,800 DEF), James Cousins ($219,900 MID)

FB: Marty Hore, Oscar McDonald, Neville Jetta
HB: Michael Hibberd, Sam Frost, Jordan Lewis

R: Max Gawn, Angus Brayshaw, Clayton Oliver
M: Christian Salem, Jack Viney, James Harmes

HF: Jake Melksham, Tom McDonald, Christian Petracca
FF: Aaron vandenBerg, Sam Weideman, Charlie Spargo

I/C: Alex Neal-Bullen, Bayley Fritsch, Jayden Hunt, Nathan Jones

E: Braydon Preuss, Billy Stretch, Declan Keilty, Joel Smith
Inj/sus: Jeff Garlett, Mitch Hannan, Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Jake Lever

Without Lever and May down back the Dees look a little vulnerable, but they managed to cope like that last season. Weideman has a big job now that Hogan is gone but the rest of the side is pretty settled.

Rookies: Marty Hore ($117,300 DEF)

FB: Marley Williams, Scott Thompson, Luke McDonald
HB: Jasper Pittard, Robbie Tarrant, Jamie Macmillan

R: Todd Goldstein, Ben Cunnington, Trent Dumont
M: Jared Polec, Shaun Higgins, Aaron Hall

HF: Shaun Atley, Jack Ziebell, Jy Simpkin
FF: Mason Wood, Ben Brown, Kayne Turner

I/C: Dom Tyson, Paul Ahern, Tarryn Thomas, Luke Davies-Uniacke

E: Ben McKay, Nathan Hrovat, Nick Larkey, Bailey Scott
Inj/sus: Majak Daw, Ben Jacobs, Sam Wright, Tom Campbell, Jed Anderson

Tarrant should be right for the season opener, but Wright and Anderson are unlikely to get up in time. There are plenty of new faces in blue and white with the most interesting debutant the high draft pick, Tarryn Thomas.

Rookies: Tarryn Thomas ($175,800 MID)

FB: Riley Bonner, Tom Clurey, Darcy Byrne-Jones
HB: Ryan Burton, Tom Jonas, Dan Houston

R: Scott Lycett, Tom Rockliff, Travis Boak
M: Brad Ebert, Sam Powell-Pepper, Justin Westhoff

HF: Robbie Gray, Jack Watts, Steve Motlop
FF: Sam Gray, Todd Marshall, Connor Rozee

I/C: Karl Amon, Xavier Duursma, Zak Butters, Willem Drew

E: Sam Mayes, Matthew Broadbent, Dougal Howard
Inj: Paddy Ryder, Ollie Wines, Charlie Dixon, Hamish Hartlett

Ken Hinkley gave us the hint there will be plenty of debutants, great news for coaches. I reckon Howard could force his way into that defence but we’ll just have to see what plays out during the week.

Rookies: Connor Rozee ($189,300 FWD), Xavier Duursma ($130,800 DEF/MID), Zak Butters ($157,800 MID), Willem Drew ($123,900 MID/FWD)

FB: Dylan Grimes, Alex Rance, Nick Vlastuin
HB: Jayden Short, David Astbury, Bachar Houli

Toby Nankervis, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin
M: Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham, Kamdyn McIntosh

Kane Lambert, Jack Riewoldt, Jack Higgins
FF: Daniel Rioli, Noah Balta, Dan Butler

Shane Edwards, Oleg Markov, Nathan Broad, Dion Prestia

E: Mav Weller, Jack Ross, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Ivan Soldo
Inj: Tom Lynch, Josh Caddy, Jason Castagna, Shaun Grigg

Lynch won’t get up in time so Balta comes in for a round one debut. There aren’t many spots up for grabs in this team, especially when Caddy, Castagna and Grigg return.

Rookies: Noah Balta ($123,900 FWD)

FB: Jarryn Geary, Darragh Joyce, Logan Austin
HB: Shane Savage, Josh Battle, Jimmy Webster

Rowan Marshall, Seb Ross, Jack Steele
M: Jack Billings, Hunter Clark, Jack Newnes

Jack Sinclair, Josh Bruce, Jade Gresham
FF: Jack Lonie, Tim Membrey, Matt Parker

Nick Hind, Ben Long, Luke Dunstan, Dean Kent

E: Ed Phillips, Callum Wilkie, David Armitage, Nick Coffield
Inj: Max King, Nathan Brown, Jake Carlisle, Billy Longer, Jack Steven, Dan Hannebery, Paddy McCartin, Dylan Roberton, Lewis Pierce

Question marks surround the fitness of McCartin and Roberton, who I’ve left out to be safe. Does former Magpie Jono Marsh immediately come into the Saints’ squad to face the Suns? Sinclair and Gresham will also push for midfield time.

Rookies: Darragh Joyce ($123,900 DEF), Matt Parker ($117,300 FWD), Nick Hind ($117,300 MID)

FB: Jackson Thurlow, Heath Grundy, Dane Rampe
HB: Jake Lloyd, Aliir Aliir, Jarrad McVeigh

Cal Sinclair, Josh P Kennedy, Luke Parker
M: Ryan Clarke, George Hewett, Callum Mills

Tom Papley, Sam Reid, Isaac Heeney
FF: Will Hayward, Lance Franklin, Jordan Dawson

Harry Cunningham, Zak Jones, Oliver Florent, Ben Ronke

E: Nick Blakey, Lewis Melican, Robbie Fox, Colin O’Riordan
Inj: Daniel Menzel, Sam Naismith, Nick Smith

I’ve named Franklin but not Menzel because I don’t think the Swans will take any risks with Menzel, but know that Buddy doesn’t need a lot of training to be match fit. Melican misses out because of the side of the Dogs’ forward line. Blakey just misses a debut behind Ronke.

Rookies: n/a

FB: Will Schofield, Tom Barrass, Shannon Hurn
HB: Liam Duggan, Jeremy McGovern, Lewis Jetta

Nathan Vardy, Elliot Yeo, Luke Shuey
M: Chris Masten, Mark Hutchings, Dom Sheed

Willie Rioli, Jack Darling, Jack Petruccelle
FF: Jake Waterman, Josh J Kennedy, Liam Ryan

Brad Sheppard, Tom Cole, Tom Hickey, Jack Redden

E: Francis Watson, Oscar Allen, Daniel Venables, Jarrod Brander
Inj/sus: Andrew Gaff, Jamie Cripps, Nic Naitanui

This mob don’t have to change a lot. Assuming JJK gets up, Oscar Allen will miss out. However, Petruccelle will get a start in the premiers’ team and I’m thinking they’ll go in with two ruckmen at this stage.

Rookies: Jack Petruccelle ($123,900 FWD)

FB: Dale Morris, Zaine Cordy, Bailey Williams
HB: Matthew Suckling, Jackson Trengove, Easton Wood

Tim English, Jack Macrae, Marcus Bontempelli
M: Lachie Hunter, Tom Liberatore, Ed Richards

Josh Dunkley, Aaron Naughton, Toby McLean
FF: Billy Gowers, Josh Schache, Tory Dickson

Sam Lloyd, Mitch Wallis, Caleb Daniel, Hayden Crozier

E: Bailey Smith, Taylor Duryea, Will Hayes, Pat Lipinski
Inj: Tom Boyd, Ben Cavarra, Bailey Dale, Lukas Webb, Jason Johannisen, Lin Jong, Liam Picken

With a lack of tall forwards to choose from, Aaron Naughton could start 2019 up forward. The Dogs’ midfield is stacked with the likes of Dunkley and McLean spilling over into the forward line. It appears Daniel and Crozier will be used off half back, but JJ is still to come back into this team.

Rookies: n/a
