Josho’s Skippers – Round 16

Welcome back to the SCHQ Captains article. I’m Josh and if you need help on who to put the VC and C on I’m here to lend a hand! Let’s get right into it.

Vice Captains

Josh P Kennedy V Geelong Cats
The Swans Captain is in really good form of late having a 5 round average of 116. He scored 125 earlier this year against the Cats. His coming off a big score of 140 from last round but it’s the competition he was up against that’s most impressive! The reigning premiers Richmond. JPK racked up 36 disposals against the Tiges which ultimately led to his high scoring affair.
It’s no coincidence that JPK is hitting form. It seems to happen every year that he finishes the year off strong. His record is good against the Cats and he certainly doesn’t back down against good teams. This year he has scored 125 v Cats, 140 v Tigers, Eagles 112 and North 151 against Good teams.
JPK is only in the 7% of teams so he is likely to be a POD captain choice this round, that could change however with the injury of Fyfe. Either way he is a good captaincy option for this week.
Tom Mitchell V Western Bulldogs
Mitchell is coming of a huge 181 points and is now the second highest averaging player in the whole of SuperCoach. Like Gawn it’s almost impossible to not put Mitchell in this article weekly. Mitchell is racking up elite numbers averaging 127 for the season but it’s his last 6 games average of 138 that’s irresistible to ignore when choosing a Vice Captain or Captain.
The Doggies don’t tag which is SuperCoach gold for Mitchell owners. When he is let loose crazy things happen. Just look at his all time VFL/AFL record in which he has racked up 50 disposals not once, not twice but three times! The second most times that figure has been recorded by another player is just the one time.
If you want a reliable option this weekend don’t think twice about Mitchell or the Big bearded Gawn has your Vice Captain or Captain choice.
Patrick Dangerfield V Sydney Swans
Although he is not the Dangerfield of the last two years who averaged 130+, Danger has still been super consistent this year only scoring under the ton once in his 13 games. His worst score was a respectable 94.
Dustin Martin V Adelaide Crows
I know this is a huge risk but Dusty has a three game average of 134 against the Crows. Including 160 this year in a poor year.
Patrick Cripps V Brisbane Lions
Contested ball winning beast Cripps is ranked 1st in the league for contested possessions averaging 18.2 per game. He will enjoy playing the worst team in the league for Contested possessions the Lions this weekend.

Max Gawn V Fremantle
It’s almost impossible to argue against putting Gawn in the Captain section of this article. He takes on Fremantle this weekend who are without big Aaron Sandilands. The Dockers will also be without Fyfe who is their leading Clearance and Contested Possession player, meaning that Gawn’s hit-outs will decrease in likeliness of being sharked.
Gawn’s form of late has been spectacular and it has given him the crown of being the current king of SuperCoach season 2018 with his average of 128. His average alone is a score that many Coaches would be happy to take as their Captain score.
Coming off the back of two 140+ scores Gawn is my number one choice for Captain this round, playing at a happy hunting ground for him, TIO Stadium, A venue where he has played good footy in the past.
Brodie Grundy V Essendon
Grundy has an insane 5 round average of 126. He scored 113 against his opponent Essendon this week in Round 5. He is currently averaging the third most points of any player in SuperCoach this season.
Bellchambers is the perfect bloke for Grundy to score huge against. Firstly Grundy averages 7 more hit-outs than big Tommy. Secondly Grundy gets the majority of his points from winning the footy around the grounds averaging 21 disposals, Bellchambers is rather slow and only averages the 11.
I would probably choose to Captain Gawn over Grundy but either way you should be safe for a good score.
Shaun Higgins v Gold Coast Suns
Higgins is arguably in the form of his life and has a 4 game average of 122. He is a bit of a POD pick only being in 2% of teams but many teams have picked him up for Fyfe this week.
Zach Merrett V Collingwood
Merrett is starting to hit some really good form as are his team the Bombers. Pies don’t tag and Merrett has a Three round average of 116. Not the worst option out there.
Josh Kelly V West Coast Eagles
Kelly has a three game average of 117 against the Eagles. He takes them on at Optus Stadium this weekend.
