Welcome back to the SCHQ Captains article. I’m Josh and if you need help on who to put the VC and C on I’m here to lend a hand! Last week’s article was a ripper with the four main blokes I mentioned to either VC or C scoring well; Yeo 113, Gawn 140, Kelly 149 and Grundy 113.
Dangerfield vs Doggies
One of my golden rules in recent years playing SuperCoach is to vice captain Danger no matter who he is playing. He isn’t anymore at the level he was the past two years averaging 130+ but he is still capable of huge numbers and averaging a handy 113.
Part of the reason his numbers are lower this year is the fact he is playing more minutes in the forward line. However an interesting stat I heard pre the Richmond and Geelong Cats game on Fox Footy indicated that he spends large amount of minutes in the forward line against top eight teams and lower amounts against bottom 10.
The Doggies don’t tag and Danger is due for a big score. The fact that the game is being played at Etihad is awesome too as it’s much smaller than the MCG and will be easier to get it faster to the forward line when Danger is down there one on one.
Bont vs Cats
The Bont is coming up against a side that doesn’t tag this weekend and it’s certainly a relief for his owners. His form of late has been very impressive. In 5 of his last 7 games he has scored 120+ including 2 times above 130 (132 and 145).
Macrae out of the team has meant more Midfield minutes rather than Forward minutes, something that equates to Supercoach Gold. Expect Bont to score big on the ground he does some of his best work Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Oh how I’ve missed you Rory. Your dash and run off half back is such a delight to watch. Averaging 110 and has been very good at Adelaide Oval this year. 6/7 of his scores there were tons.
One of my favourite players in the competition is playing his 300th game this year loves the G. Runs rampant off that half back line. Book him in for a 140+ score.
The HOFF is taking on the Blues this week who have a horrendous percentage of 62.7%. Expect Mr Fix it to score huge against the struggling Blues.
Josh Kelly vs Hawks
Josh Kelly is in amazing form of late. Coming off the back of two 140+ scores. The superstar Giant is finally over his groin problems and looks fitter than ever. The good news for Kelly is that old mate Clarko doesn’t tag so another free running game for Kelly is on the cards.
Plays well against the Hawks. 100 in 2016 and 134 in 2017 when he became a star. Spotless suits his playing style this year, a year where he isn’t picking up much contested pill but is running around like crazy picking up uncontested pill and kicking goals. Isn’t the worst option this week Joshy Kelly!
Nat Fyfe at home vs the Lion Cubs
Nat Fyfe plus Optus Stadium plus the sruggling Lions equals SuperCoach madness! Fyfe is the king of Optus Stadium: he averages 133 points there in his seven games at the new venue this year. That stunning average includes scores of 163, 160, 151, 126 and 120. He takes on the Lions this week who allowed Josh Kelly to score 149 last weekend. Not to mention the big bodied Fyfe is practically un-taggable.
Lions are last in the league for average contested possessions. Something that Fyfe loves and scores bulk points from. He is 2nd in the league for average contested possessions racking up 17.5 per game. What’s my bold statement this week? Fyfe to score 200. Lock it in Eddie.
In the form of his life. Averaging 110 for the year but it’s his three round average of 125 that’s impressive. Saints are a wreck currently and I see it hard for them to stop this guy. Averaging 3.5 goals per game and 17 disposals!
Expect the contested pill beast to tear apart the Saints. Three round average of 120 looks tasty and has big Max palming it down to him against the Saints poor Ruck stocks.
Is averaging 118 in his last 9 games this year. Not many have him but if you do consider him as your captain. Maybe even a cheeky trade in option for Treloar?
