Last Drinks – Hawthorn 2017 Preview

A lot of off-season changes: the Hawks need a few new blokes to stand up!

Blue Chip Investment

Tom Mitchell (Mid) $565,500

Crossing from Sydney where he was part of one of the most dominant midfields in the competition, to joining a team with a need for his expertise. Tom came 20th in contested possessions per game last year, an area where Hawthorn came last. It’s the perfect fit! Tom is a ball magnet, will be Hawthorn’s number one man and a great option to start in your midfield.

JLT scores: 119, 109

Point of Difference

Jack Gunston (Fwd) $502,300

Jack has been super consistent over the last three years, averaging between 90-96pts in that time. Incredibly, he has also amassed the most overall points in the last three years out of any forward! This   is due mainly to his ability to consistently stay on the paddock – he really is a set and forget type player, and all coaches want that.

JLT scores: 92, 75
Mid Price Potential

Jarryd Roughead (Fwd) $367,100

Introducing the new Hawthorn captain at an absolute steal of a price. After a well documented year off due to cancer, Jarryd has not missed a beat this preseason playing all three JLT Community Series games and even spending some time up the ground in the midfield!

He just makes sense!

JLT scores: 63, 95, 76

Teia Miles (Fwd/Mid) $123,900

Has done some nice things in the JLT Community Series but I’m still unsure about his round one claims. I think there are a few others are ahead of him, but in saying that he will receive opportunities this year in the senior side. Just maybe not early in the year.

JLT scores: 58, 46, 55
Stay Away

Tyrone Vickery (Fwd) $310,400

With a change of club could he actually become relevant in SuperCoach?

The answer is NO. He only has forward status, even though I think he will do some rucking to share the load with Ben McEvoy. However, there is no way I can see him possibly taking his game to a new level to make him worthy of selection.

Pass, pass, pass!

JLT scores: 59, 117, 37
