Predicted Round 1 Teams – St.Kilda, Collingwood, Melbourne

Over the next six nights, we will bring you possible Round 1 line-ups for each team. It won’t be entirely written by our website’s authors though; we have sourced fans from each team to do the nitty gritty for us! Most of the teams will have a small comment that will provide some clarity to the selections. Each fan was asked to consider injuries, suspension, match-ups and JLT form in their selections. Here’s hoping we see a few rookies… Enjoy!

We start off with Aaron from SuperCoach HQ, Paige Cardona, well known amongst SuperCoach and football circles, and Ross, a mad Melbourne supporter.

St.Kilda – Aaron M – @AaronSCHQ

B: Geary, Brown, Dempster
HB: Roberton, Carlisle, Savage
C: Newnes, Steele, Billings
HF: Weller, Bruce, Riewoldt
F: Wright, McCartin, Membrey
FOL: Hickey, Steven, Ross
INT: Armitage, Gresham, Dunstan, Webster

Next in line: Longer, Acres, Gilbert

Comments: Saints have been lucky with injuries so far, only having Freeman and Montagna unavailable for Round 1, while Ben Long misses through suspension (I expect Long to play at some stage in 2017). Acres is a great young player but hard to squeeze him in after a lackluster JLT series. Acres or Gilbert could quite easily go into that 22 for Webster or even for Brown/Dempster if they choose to go with speed against Melbourne. Hickey the number 1 ruck, but Longer is making his presence known.

Collingwood – Paige Cardona – @paigecardona

B: Goldsack, Dunn, Ramsay
HB: Howe, Reid, Maynard
C: Varcoe, Treloar, Sidebottom
HF: Mayne, Cox, Hoskin-Elliot
F: Aish, Moore, Fasolo
FOL: Grundy, Pendlebury, Adams
INT: De Goey, Crisp, Smith, Phillips

Next in line: White, Keefe, Blair

Comments:  Promising youngster Matt Scharenberg misses out for Round 1, although he is a player for the future. Newcomers Lynden Dunn, Chris Mayne and Will Hoskin-Elliott have acquitted themselves well during the JLT series and loom as certain starters. Under an injury cloud, Daniel Wells, Levi Greenwood and Jamie Elliott are all best 22, meaning Collingwood’s depth will give selectors a few headaches.

Melbourne – Ross Ginn – @roscogee

B: Jetta, T.McDonald, J.Smith
HB: Hunt, O.McDonald, Salem
C: Vince, Viney, Lewis
HF: Petracca, Hogan, Brayshaw
F: Watts, Weiderman, Garlett
FOL: Gawn, Jones, Oliver
INT: Tyson, Stretch, Melksham, Spencer

Next in line: Harmes, Bugg, Neal-Bullen

Comments: Spencer may play based on strong JLT form. Lewis, Hibberd and Melksham to debut for Melbourne, all coming from other clubs. Expect Dean Kent, Alex Neal-Bullen and Joel Smith to all feature throughout the season. If wanting a bit more height against St.Kilda, Garland may be called upon.
