The BBL Sleeper Report – Round 5

This week is all about setting your team up for a late surge into the BBL Fantasy finals, and we have a couple of game-changers up our sleeves for you. It is extremely important to get the balance of your team right at this time of the season, with coaches having to deal with the added stress of international duties to go with the usual byes this round (Thunder/Sixers). It can mess us all around (I even had Billy Stanlake pencilled in for this article before he was named in the ODI squad!), but the most important thing is to make sure you can field 11 players. Here are some Sleeper options for you to consider:

Thisara PERERA [BAT/BWL]  $83,500

Thrust straight into the Renegades lineup following the injury to Dwayne Bravo, Perera sure did make a splash in his first appearance for BBL|06. While he only managed six runs with the bat, the Sri Lankan allrounder chipped in his four overs with the ball with returns of 2/26. Perera has already experienced success on our shores before, helping the Brisbane Heat claim their BBL|02 premiership back in 2013, and, with the worst of the Renegades’ ugly schedule behind us, is now a perfect point-of-difference to bring in to your side. He has points potential in all three facets of the game and was only owned in 0.7% of teams last round where he registered 75 points. The perfect replacement for your players now on international duty.

Brad HODGE [BAT]  $79,000

Hodgey has just celebrated his 42nd birthday, but the man is still in the form of his life. Averaging 63.2 points per game, the Strikers captain is ranked 12th overall in BBL Fantasy, yet is still one of the most underrated batsman in the competition. The veteran has over 250 T20 games under his belt, bringing plenty of experience to the table and should seriously be considered for your team. With a lowest score of 50 this season, Hodge is also one of the most reliable and consistent scorers in the BBL, something every Fantasy coach craves. Owned in just under 14% of teams, Hodgey still has plenty to offer this season and could be the one to carry you through these last couple of weeks.
