BBL|06 Fantasy Preview

With the Aussie test team in dire straights, cricket fans across the nation have been praying for something to look forward to, and the gods have answered our call…Big Bash Fantasy is back for 2016/17!

The Big Bash is set for another bumper season with the Sydney Thunder out to defend their maiden title.

BBL fans are already getting a taste of what to look forward to with key international signings gearing up for season #6. The Brisbane Heat, looking to rebound from last year’s wooden spoon, have added explosive Kiwi Brendon McCullum to their ranks while Englishmen Stuart Broad and Ian Bell have joined the Hurricanes and Scorchers respectively. Big West Indian Keiron Pollard returns to Adelaide.

Add Aussie favourite Mitch Johnson who will be lining up for his Perth Scorchers and BBL fans are in for an absolute treat.

And the surprises don’t stop there. BBL Fantasy|06 comes with new changes to team selection, prices and scoring.

The all-rounder position has been scrapped, with all-rounders now available for selection as either batsmen or bowlers with the bonus of having DPP (Dual Position Player) status. This gives coaches the opportunity to pick numerous all rounders in their squad to maximise scoring potential.

In terms of player value, prices are set to change immediately after the completion of Round 1, so ensure that you have your key players locked in and ready to go. Coaches can also continue to edit their players right up to the start of each game with the rolling lockout retained.

Also, perhaps the most important news for BBL Fantasy coaches is a scoring change in the bowling department. Players will now be awarded a point for every dot ball they bowl in an innings. This will surely cause a shift to more economical selections who now boast higher scoring potential.

It’s also worth noting that players seem very affordable at this early stage with plenty of bargains on offer. Some quality selections are on offer for much lower than one would expect.

(Hint: a certain Sri Lankan legend is priced at just $30K)

Make sure you register and get your mates on board for what’s set to be a ripping season.

  1. Thoughts on my team at the moment?
Batsman: Lynn, Watson, Pietersen, Bell, Sangakarra (Weatherald, Michael)
    Wicket Keeper: Haddin (Doran)
Bowlers: Russell, Head, Rashid, Willey, Johnson (Muirhead, Wildermouth)

    1. Nice team Jesse! Bowling department looks star studded and I like your keeper position picks as well as picking up a huge bargain in Sangakkara. My only concerns would be over Ian Bell and your two strikers in Head and Rashid. Personally, I’m not too keen on Bell at the moment in his first taste of the Big Bash and I’ll be waiting to see how he goes in the first few rounds; however, he does provide a point of difference and if it pays off, it’ll be a big bonus for you. As for Head and Rashid, bear in mind that the Strikers have a bye in round 2. My suggestion is have Head as a batsmen and Rashid as a bowler so it’ll be easier for you to cover their absence.

  2. Hey guys. I had a look at the prizes and thought it might be worth going for the highest combined private league score. First serious year but play other forms of fantasy (Mainly Nrl, came in the top 1% of 120000 players) so I like to think I know what I’m doing.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in having a crack, the code is 124076

    1. Hi there Adam, nice team and I especially like the bench cover you’ve got. As well as a number of Sixers/Thunder/Strikers players for their double round. All in all, I really can’t fault your team at all! Henriques, McCullum, Pollard and Badree I really like the look of and have in my team as well at this stage.

      1. Thanks Pindu. Due to Russell’s double game first up and ability to score high I want to try and fit him in but cost wise it means I have to forego other players. If I get Russell the plan would be to trade him out in Round 2 for Pietersen or Klinger to allow me to upgrade Doran to Paine to avoid copping a donut or low score. Also should allow G Sandhu or J Bird to be upgraded to J Faulkner. Therefore what combination would you rather B McCullum, M Klinger, K Pietersen, J Faulkner and T Paine or A Russell, M Marsh, D Wiley, J Bird and J Doran.

      2. Definitely go for BMac, Klinger, KP, Faulkner and Paine. The only thing I would recommend is choosing a different player instead of Klinger as he is severely out of form. Perhaps you could consider Morgan, Roy, Pollard, Bell etc

  4. Just looking for some feedback on my team so far, just an early draft to get me started.
Batsmen: Bravo, Lynn, Watson, Faulkner, Maddinson, (Rohrer, Sangakkara)
    Keepers: Ludeman (Dunk)
Bowlers: Russell, Behrendorff, Cutting, Stoinis, Dwarshuis (Bird, Sandhu)

    1. Hi Corey. Nice team to start of with, here are couple of tips to make it even stronger:
      – At the moment you’ve got five players on field who are playing twice in round one, with three more on the bench, make sure that those players getting two games are on field to maximise scoring potential
      – Be wary of having two strikers in the keeper position (Bye in round 2)
      – Also I’m a bit hesitant on Ben Rohrer, he is a batsmen who isn’t the fastest of scorers and will bat somewhere from 4-6, if you are looking for a bench player go for a cheaper option, otherwise look for top order batsmen or all rounders.
      Hope this helps.

Batsman- Head, McCullum, Morgan, White, Pietersen (Sangakkara, Weatherland)

Cheers (Obviously playeres will change on field as some play twice first round)

    1. Excellent team Sauce.
You’ve clearly spent as little as possible on the keeping position in order to go big in the batting and bowling which I believe is an excellent strategy and one that could pay off for you…big time. You’ve got a fair number of players from the double game teams and you’re team looks very well balanced. Having Richardson as your worst bowler on field and white as your worst batsmen shows excellent depth. I also like the look of Morgan for the thunder, I think he’ll have a big summer.

      1. Cheers mate, ive made a few small changes to the line up to improve it a bit more, would you prefer that line up of this line up? Thanks again.

        Batsman- Head,Mcullum,Morgan,White,Pietersen (Sangakkara, Weatherland)
        Keepers- Dunk (Doran)
        Bowlers- Watson,Henriques,Willey,Behrendorff,Pollard (Stoinis,Sandu)
And i can get Sunil Narine for Stoinis what are your thoughts?

        Like

      2. Definitely your second team Sauce. I see you’ve bought in Moises and Pollard who are excellent selections with their All Rounder capabilities. I don’t think upgrading Stoinis is necessary for you at this point, he’ll play a big role for the Stars and I think he’looks provide excellent bench cover. My suggestion would be to use that money to upgrade your keeping position. Either start with a better keeper such as Haddin/Ludeman, or you could upgrade Doran. Further more, you could save that money to upgrade Stoinis to Narine at the end of round 2 so that Narine comes in for the Renegades double round.

  6. Hey guys, could I have some thoughts on this team?? This is my first draft but I’m pretty happy with it at the moment.

BAT: Henriques, Bravo, Willey, Pollard, Klinger (Sangakarra, Doolan)
    WKP: Dunk (Doran)
BOWL: Russell, Rashid, Watson, Johnson, Faulkner (Sandhu, Muirhead)

    1k itb. Thoughts??

    1. You have good reason to be happy with that team Jason, looks very nice at the moment. The only advice I could give you is that Klinger is out of form and I think age might be catching up with him. Also, my other suggestion would be to add some variability to your side by bringing in a Brisbane Heat player, perhaps get rid of either Sandhu or Muirhead and bring in all rounder Jason Floros who is only 30K and set to play a significant role for the Heat this season after becoming QLD skipper.

  8. Batsmen- Russell, Baz, Klinger, Maddy, Simmons (Sanga, Cartwright)
    WK- Ludeman (Harper)
Bowlers- Henriques, Bravo, Watson, Christian, Richardson (Faulkner, McDermott)

    Thoughts about my team???

    1. Solid team there mate. you’ve got seven players with the double in R1 which will provide plenty of scoring potential. However, I’m a bit wary about a couple of batsmen in Klinger and Simmons. Klinger is out of form, I don’t think he’ll play as well as last season. As for Simmons, he’s quite a risk as he’s very inconsistent and unpredictable, if you wanted a POD, there are safer selections out there.

  9. Thoughts on current team:
    Batsmen: A Russell, D Christian, K Pollard, J Botha, K Sangakkara, M Marsh, M Harris.
    Bowlers: M Henriques, D Bravo, D Wiley, S Narine, S Badree, J Faulkner, G Sandhu.
    Wicketkeepers: B Dunk, J Doran

Also would you rather have S Narine and J Faulkner or S Watson and J Bird.

    1. With my above comment I meant S Narine, J Faulkner and M Marsh or S Watson, B McCullum and H Cartwright instead of the aforementioned combination.

      1. Nice team mate. You’ve also spent little in the keeping position to go big in the batting and bowling departments. I see you’ve also got excellent bench cover which is vital in BBL fantasy. My only concerns would be with Ben Dunk’s bye in round 2, you’ll either have to take Doran’s score or make a trade. Mitch Marsh and James Faulkner are excellent bench selections who’ll cover well for your other bye players. As for your question regarding the two combinations, I would say that if Cartwright is getting games, definitely go for Watto, BMac and Cartwright.

      2. Also do you like the strategy of trading Russell in Round 2 to Pietersen to allow Doran to be upgraded to Paine.

  10. Hey guys just wanted some feedback on an early draft.

Bowlers: Henriques, Johnson, Badree, Boyce, Richardson (Hogg, Sandhu)

    1. Hey Joshua, it’s quite strange that you haven’t picked either Watto or DreRuss considering the fact that SydT play twice in Rd1

      Like

    2. Very nice team Joshua. You’ve got plenty of depth right through to your bench selections which is vital in BBL fantasy. You’ve also got six players with a double game in round one including Sandhu and Dunk which is plenty. All in all, that’s an excellent team to have for an early draft, only concerns would be over ferguson and Hogg, if you’re looking for Renegades players for round 3 id suggest cam white. Perhaps you could downgrade Hogg and upgrade Ferguson to white. Apart from that, good stuff so far mate.

Bowlers: McKay, Behrendorff, Richardson, Badree, (Sandu)
Not sure if I should put sandu on the ground first round, will he play?
Also who to put captain on I was thinking Henriques or Watson?

    Like

    1. For captaincy, I agree Watto is a great choice, especially with the double week first up. Your team looks great for now, there’s nothing notable that needs to change. Of course, as we get closer to the start of the tournament, something might pop up. Stick with Sandhu on the bench, because if Cummins is fit, he might not play. Check out my predicted XIs article for all the other guys.

      1. I don’t think Head will bowl 4ovrs in most of games.
Regular bowlers will be Neser, Rashid, Richardson, Laughlin, Holland & Pollard. I don’t think any of them will have bad day more often.

Bowl – Henriques, Behrendorff, Laughlin, Pollard, Cummins, (Tremain, H.Cartwright)

    1. Hey Burney,
I like this team, with a few exceptions. Behrendorff is currently injured and is in doubt for the BBL, so move him on. As for Pollard, you can check out my reasoning in the Strikers preview, but I’m just not sure he’s a good option.

    WK: Haddin (Doran)
BOWL: Russell, Henriques, Watson, Cummins, Sandhu (M.Marsh, Cartwright)

Thoughts?!? Unsure on how many double ups is too much? I feel that a full team can work seeing that two of the teams in round 1 with DGW don’t have their byes until round 6. Who are the players missing from international commitments and the rest injuries etc. Responses are greatly appreciated :D.

BWL: Russell, Henriques, Bravo, Cummins, Holland (M.Marsh, Floros)
