The Renegades are looking to bounce back this season from a disappointing BBL|04 where they only won three games. They come back this season with new head coach David Saker and new recruits Xavier Doherty, Nathan Hauritz, Chris Tremain, Cameron White and Chris Gayle. But they have lost both Ben Rohrer and Fawad Ahmed to the Thunder and Andrew Fekete and Alex Doolan to the Heat.
PLAYERS TO PICK
Aaron Finch – $42,200
After a less than impressive BBL|04 the Renegades captain will be looking to bounce back with a new look Renegades squad by his side. With Gayle now opening the batting alongside Finch there will be less of a workload for him to carry and he can play more of an anchor role and he’ll be able to give himself more time to get his eye in. Also Finch is the #1 ranked T20 batsman in the world and at only $42,200 you’d be crazy to go without him.
Chris Gayle – $88,900
The Gaylestorm is coming to BBL|05 and will form a dangerous batting lineup with Aaron Finch, Cameron White, Dwayne Bravo and Matthew Wade. Gayle is a master of the T20 format in which he averages 44 and he is ranked #7 in the world. The added fact that Gayle could go berserk at any given moment and that he’s available for the whole tournament makes him a must have in BBL Fantasy this year.
Nathan Rimmington – $46,200
Through all the BBL seasons Rimmington has been one of the most consistent bowlers for the Renegades and he will have a big role in their bowling group this season. With Peter Siddle and James Pattinson likely to miss most of the BBL season a lot of the pace bowling responsibility will fall to Rimmington and he will have a bigger opportunity to bowl during the powerplays and at the death which is where he excels.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Cameron White – $45,400
White has switched from the Stars to cross town rivals the Renegades and will likely have a big role near the back end of the tournament. White will likely start the season at #3 in the batting order but will likely open if Finch is selected for the ODI and T20 series. At this price he is worth it but White can be inconsistent so watch his form at the start of the tournament then decide.
Callum Ferguson – $45,100
The South Australian enjoyed a fruitful Matador Cup campaign where he scored 328 at 46.85 and has continued it at Sheffield Shield level with 435 at 54.37. He would be in the players to pick section but with the uncertainty of where he will bat in the Renegades order he slides down into the players to watch section. If he gets a spot in the top 4 jump on the Ferguson boat though.
Peter Nevill – $30,000
New Australian test keeper Nevill will miss the start of the tournament because of the Windies test matches but he will likely swap places with Matty Wade later in the tournament with Wade likely to take the gloves for the ODI and T20 series. At this price Nevill is worth a bench spot later in the tournament.
PLAYERS TO AVOID
Matthew Wade – $56,100
The Victorian keeper is still sidelined by a broken collarbone he suffered at training and despite being hopeful to make it back for the first game, he likely won’t and with a lack of match practice along with him not opening any more is enough to put me off Wade.
