Hello all and welcome back to SuperCoach HQ’s take on the upcoming round of FOX Sports Fantasy A-League! It’s been a long time between drinks in terms of our article writing here, but with still 9 rounds left plus finals; everything is still up for grabs, whether that be the overall prize or your private leagues! So read on below for your early-week preview of what’s ahead for round 19!
Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix
First thing to note is that this match will be played on THURSDAY the 9th, so don’t forget to lock in your teams early this week! The Sky Blues are still undefeated this season and are playing home to the 8th placed and very inconsistent Kiwi side. Milos Ninkovic (MID 346k) is still leading the in fantasy points this season. Michael Zullo (DEF 188k) of course has been benefitting from both his attacking plays and their ability to keep clean sheets, but new international import Jordy Buijs (DEF 154k) is playing and affordable.
In the Phoenix camp, Roy Krishna (FWD 268k) is still their only shining light with 9 goals and 5 assists in 19 games. Shane Smeltz will be out suspended this week, perhaps opening up the avenue for Kosta Barbarouses (FWD 271k) to find some form again.
Adelaide United v Perth Glory
Things aren’t faring well for the 2015/16 champions. Last placed and facing an identity crisis with players out injured and suspended as well as some last minute transfers being sorted out as we speak. Isaias (MID 213k) is trying his best to hold up the team but did just accumulate his 8th yellow card for the season. Ben Garuccio (DEF 148k) meanwhile is one of the only players proving value for money despite his lack of clean sheets.
For the Western Australian side, Diego Castro (MID 321k) reminded everyone what he was capable of with two goals and a man of the match performance over the weekend. It’s not as good news however for Nebojsa Marinkovic who has not played more than 35 minutes in a match since round 10.
Newcastle Jets v Melbourne Victory
The Jets will be wondering how you face a Victory side fresh off the performance we all witnessed in the derby, but Hunter Stadium has always been a bogey ground for the Melbourne side so anything can happen! Amidst their inconsistency, Andrew Hoole (MID 258k) has quietly started to really make his mark on the league, averaging a goal or assist every second match for this second part of the season. Meanwhile Andrew Nabbout (FWD 234k) has widely been considered one of the players of the season so far with the impact he makes for Newcastle side and how wary he makes opposing defenders!
On the other side of the coin is a little Kiwi named Marco Rojas (FWD 308k) who actually has taken the league by storm. Only 3 times in his past 9 games has he scored under 9 fantasy points. Assisting him is the ever dangerous James Troisi (MID 321k) and the fearless Besart Berisha (FWD 315k). These three Victory players make up three of the top four fantasy players this season which speaks for itself.
Melbourne City v Brisbane Roar
The out of confidence City side this week will be without Bruno Fornaroli, Tim Cahill, Fernando Brandan, Luke Brattan, Osama Malik, Manny Muscat and likely Dean Bouzanis. So who does that leave to give hope in fantasy-land? Nicolas Colazo (MID $270k) and Bruce Kamau (FWD 211k) will be the main creative sparks this week, although both players will be equally frustrated at their lack of goals despite some strong performances. Ivan Franjic (DEF $212k) may still be thinking about his stunning goal over a month ago however the City defence is not known for its clean sheets.
Brisbane Roar do have a mid-week match this week, so how they lineup then and how that affects their weekend lineup is anyone’s guess. Dimitri Petratos has been sold overseas, so jump off him if he’s in your side. Jamie Maclaren (FWD 303k) has and therefore will continue to be their main striking threat up front, with Thomas Kristensen (MID 265k) his most consistent support in midfield. Thomas Oar has also proven to spark up when he’s needed most.
Western Sydney Wanderers v Central Coast Mariners
An intriguing battle this one with both sides trying desperately to muster as many points as possible to sneak in to finals contention. The Wanderers have Nico Martinez (MID 291k) who has settled now quite nicely in the red and black, always making an impact without necessarily scoring or assisting. He along with many fantasy coaches will be hoping Mitch Nichols (MID 295k) will return to the side as there is no doubting how the Australian can tear a game apart.
In the yellow corner we have a side struggling to find consistency, with its imports and stars leaving without a mark. Roy O’Donovan (FWD 218k) has undoubtedly been their shining light, chipping in with 8 goals this campaign. Connor Pain (MID 142k) has been a faithful servant for all our fantasy sides, and the lack of similar-priced options and the potential he has for his side is keeping him around for a little longer!
Your captain options this week will include Rojas, Ninkovic, Castro, Troisi, Berisha, Martinez and Maclaren. Good luck!
